Emmy Awards Postponement: Fox to Reschedule the Ceremony
Due to ongoing strikes by the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA, Fox has made the decision to postpone the 75th Emmy Awards. Originally scheduled to be aired on September 18, the network is now planning to reschedule the event for January, pending the resolution of labor issues between the guilds and the studios.
Variety has reported that vendors involved with the Emmy Awards have already been informed about the delay. The strikes began in May, with the Writers Guild of America taking action, followed by actors represented by SAG-AFTRA joining the strike later on. Both unions are seeking improved residual payments for streaming and protections against the use of AI.
Fox executives had previously announced that they would not proceed with the Emmy Awards if either of the guilds were still on strike by the end of July. The network had no intention of moving forward without the participation of talented individuals to perform or present the awards.
This marks the first time the Emmy Awards telecast has been postponed since 2001, when it was delayed due to the Sept. 11 attacks on New York City and the Pentagon. Eventually, the program was presented in November, seven weeks behind schedule.
Fox's decision to postpone this year's show is based on the understanding that many actors and writers would likely not attend the event due to the ongoing strikes. This would leave the network with executives and reality show stars as presenters.
